Tensions flare in Doringkop as residents protest for services

2018-08-08 06:01

A DISGRUNTLED group of community members from Doringkop, Ward 25, took matters to their hands as they protested outside their ward councillor’s house on Sunday, July 29.

It is alleged that a group of about 20 community members arrived at the councillor’s house at around 11.30pm, singing songs and demanding that he address their service delivery demands.

According to SAPS KwaDukuza spokesperson Constable Sibusiso Khuzwayo, the guards at the premises called for backup from KwaDukuza Crime Prevention and the SAPS who were able to disperse the group.

“The group then returned the following morning and allegedly damaged windows of the house and burned clothes that were on the outside clothesline,” said Khuzwayo. The councillor has been removed from the community due to fears for his and his family’s safety.

A case of malicious damage to property has been opened at the KwaDukuza SAPS. No arrests have been made but the situation is under police supervision.

The KwaDukuza SAPS appeals to anyone with information on the perpetrators to come forward.
