ILEMBE Cricket Union hosted its most prestigious cricketing event the 35th edition of its Memorial Double Wicket Competition on 23 and 24 April.

This year was indeed a bumper year which saw 32 teams enter. The tournament was played over two days by the under 11, under 13 (schools) and under 16 (clubs), seniors and veterans divisions.

The results are as follows:

In the under 11 division, which was sponsored by DGM Bus Tours, the winners were: Abdulla Ismail and Tahaa Gori from ZMS Primary.

Runners-up: Safwaan Desai and Hasan Mansoor from ZMS Primary.

Fielder off the tournament: Mohammed Mulla from ZMS Primary.

Batsman of the tournament: Abdulla Ismail who made 32 runs, he is also from ZMS Primary.

Bowler of the tournament: Safwaan Desai from ZMS Primary who took 5 wickets.

Player of the tournament: Abdullah Ismail from ZMS Primary who made 32 runs, taking 4 wickets and made one catch.

In the Under 13 division, sponsored by the Jonny Ramith family, the winners were: Niren Lochan from KwaDukuza Primary and Jared Naidoo fromNorth Coast Primary.

Runners Up: Ashton Moodley and Bayanda Shandu both from Dawnview Primary.

Batsman of the tournament: Niren Lochan who made47 runs.

Bowler of the tournament: Jousha Govender who took 3 wickets.

Player of the tournament: Niren Lochan from KwaDukuza Primary.

In the under 16 division, sponsored by Minesh Maraj, the winners were: Alex Pillay and Ridwaan Mhlongo both from Manor Cricket Club.

Runners up: Mayuran Logenathan and Diego Naidoo from theManor Cricket Club.

Batsman of the tournament: Alex Pillay from Manor Cricket Club who made 61 runs.

Bowler of the tournament: Mayuren Loganathan from Manor Cricket Club who took 5 wickets for 23 runs.

Player of the tournament: Alex Pillay who made 61 runs, took 5 wickets for 31 runs.

In the seniors’ tournament, Morningside’s new signing Dillon Raughtenbac led his team to the final to face the united pair of Z. Ali and A. Saiyeed.

United claimed victory with Aron Pillay being voted fielder of the tournament, Dillon Raughtenbach securing the batting award and Z. Ali the bowler’s award. Player of the tournament was Z. Ali.

In the veterans division, sponsored by Sollys Pharamacy, Yashwin Singh and vice president Suveer Maharaj emerged victors.
