THE KwaMaphumulo SAPS are investigating two charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder following a fatal shooting in the KwaTshobho area, in KwaMaphumulo, last Friday.

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala the incident took place at around 9:50pm at a local tavern.

“Two people, one aged 43 and the other believed to be in their early 20s, were fatally shot by unknown suspects. They sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Another two victims sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for medical attention,” Gwala said.

She said SAPS has not established what the motive behind the shooting is and that no arrests have been made as yet.

One of the deceased is Mbongeni Maphumulo who is reportedly a taxi operator in the area. When contacted by the Weekly, Maphumulo’s relative declined to comment about the incident.
