IF you try purchasing an annual angling permit from the post office, you will be told that these permits are out of stock. The situation has remained like this for the past few months. An annual angling permit costs in the region of R90, whereas a monthly permit costs R52 per month. My question is simple: is the government now trying to exploit anglers by forcing them to purchase permits on a month-to-month basis? If not, can anglers be advised as to where the annual permits can be purchased? Ishwarlall Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife communication services manager Musa Mntambo reponds: Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife is aware of the difficulties in obtaining annual fishing permits. The issue of the shortage of annual recreational fishing permits is a post office and Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Daff) issue. Ezemvelo has, however, engaged with its Daff counterparts and advised them to prioritise coastal regions over inland areas. Daff has indicated that it will distribute the necessary forms shortly.
