‘Wild and dangerous’ suspect arrested in Newark

2015-12-16 06:00

A SUSPECT who had been evading the Newark SAPS since 2012 was arrested on Thursday, 3 December, for murder, robbery and drug dealing.

Newark SAPS spokesperson, Malusi Ngubane said the suspect was arrested in Ohlange, in Newark, after he was found to be in possession of marijuana.

“After he was arrested, members of the Newark SAPS Crime Prevention Unit then proceeded to his home where an illegal firearm and live rounds of ammunition were found after the place was searched,” said Ngubane.

He said the weapon would be sent for ballistics testing to determine if it was used in any other crime.

The suspect appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 7 December.

Ngubane described the suspect as a wild and dangerous individual linked to a number of serious offenses.

“I would like to thank the Newark Crime Prevention Unit for doing a great job. We hope that they continue making such arrests as we are going into a period where we will experience an increase in criminal activity,” he said.
