LORRAINE Moonsamy, a mother of four from Glenhills, was fatally stabbed in a taxi last Thursday morning, at around 5am, allegedly by her husband.

The incident occurred inside a taxi that had just left the KwaDukuza Taxi Rank and was approaching the traffic lights on King Shaka Street.

According to a witness, the couple, who were allegedly going through a divorce, were the only passengers in the taxi with the driver and conductor being the other people present.

The witness said the man then reportedly started stabbing the woman multiple times in the chest area. The driver then stopped the vehicle and attempted to apprehend him, said the witness.

“As the driver dragged the man out of the vehicle that is when [the man] started stabbing himself near the heart,” the witness said.

Moonsamy was declared dead on the scene and the man was rushed to the Stanger Regional Hospital.

SAPS provincial spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane said a 35-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband inside a minibus taxi at Gledhow Mill Road, KwaDukuza.

He said the suspect was immediately arrested and taken to hospital for treatment after he stabbed himself. Zwane said the suspect was under police guard.

“The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage. The suspect will be charged for murder,” said Zwane.

The suspect appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 January.
