FOUR men, including former ANC KwaDukuza secretary Musa Zondi, who were convicted of a murder that took place in the Kranskop area in 2015 were sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday, October 4.Musa Zondi (35) was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment, Thobelani Noh Zondi (33) was sentenced to 18 years and Mzwandile Chamane (29) and Musa Ruff Khumalo (29) were both sentenced to 22 years imprisonment each, all for murder. In addition, all four accused also received 12 years imprisonment each for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and kidnapping.According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele, due to the persistence of the Provincial Task Team detectives, they were able to solve the case of murder that was committed back in 2015 which has led to the successful sentencing of the four accused men. “The investigators sent a well-prepared docket to court to ensure that the perpetrators face the full might of law. “Their hard work was proven in the Pietermaritzburg High Court when the accused were sentenced [on Thursday] after they were convicted three weeks ago,” she said. The sentences emanates from the death of Thandanani Mnomiya (25) who was killed in 2015. His severely battered body was found near the roadside in Ntunjambili area on the night of February 15, 2015. The deceased was accused of breaking into a family tuckshop where goods were stolen. He was then questioned and fatally assaulted by the convicted men. A murder case was opened at Kranskop police station and assigned to the Provincial Task Team detectives for further investigation.
