A mother of three, Hendrika Simons, is one of the three women from Uitenhage named as finalists in the Mrs Commonwealth SA 2015 pageant.

During 2013 she also was a semi-finalist in the Mrs South Africa pageant.

Beauty runs in Hendrika’s family as her mother, a former nurse, was known for her good looks and her grandmother was a well-known ballroom dancer.

“As a family we are all involved in beauty pageants. Our eldest daughter was crowned second princess last year in the Miss Mzanzi Teen pageant, whilst I was during the same event named the first princess in the Mrs Mzanzi category,” said Hendrika, who is a quality inspector of trade at the local Lumotech plant.

Hendrika is known for hosting beauty pageants and it was during the last event, a Mr andamp; Miss Valentine competition, that Mrs Commonwealth South Africa 2014/2015, Marinda Herbst convinced her to enter this year’s Mrs Commonwealth competition.

As part of her fund-raising efforts, Hendrika will host a PinkDrive breakfast during June.

She is passionate about youth and said, “I want to inspire girls to value their lives and not to get involved in all kinds of irresponsible activities. Respect yourself and others and stick to the basic rules of life.

Teenage pregnancies are a huge problem in our community and I want to address it through the events that I am hosting,” said Hendrika.

Her dream is to own her own driving school and with the assistance of her husband Rodney, they are in the process of establishing it. This will be part of her projects to empower people and especially women.

Hendrika currently is on top of the sms voting list for the Public Award.
