Om die fluitjie rég te blaas . . . én die spel op ’n regverdige manier interessant aan die vloei te hou, het internasionale erkenning aan Theresa Prince, netbalskeidsregter van Despatch, besorg.

Prince, een van slegs drie internasionaal gegradeerde netbalskeidsregters in Suid-Afrika, is nou genooi om eersdaags by die Wêreldbeker-netbalbyeenkoms vir senior spanne in Sydney, Australië, as skeidsregter op te tree. Sy is een van 16 internasionale skeidsregters wat genooi is.

“Die belangrikste is om ’n grootwedstryd-temperament, veral wat betref toeskouers, te ontwikkel,” het sy verduidelik.

“In oorsese lande sit meer as 10 000 toe-skouers langs die baan en die meeste ken die reëls. Sommiges dink hulle weet meer as die skeidsregters. Jy hóór as jy ’n boo kry. Maar dit hou jou op jou tone, want jy weet jou beslissings moet reg wees.”

Die Allphone-arena in Sydney, waar van die Wêreldbeker-wedstryde gespeel gaan word, byvoorbeeld, het plek vir 16 300 toe-skouers.

Só iets kan senutergend vir ’n skeidsregter wees, maar Prince het lankal geleer om haar fokus te behou.
