When the road of an award-winning local car dealer which supports a youth centre, crosses the path of an award-winning entertainer who established a Kids Help Fund, the outcome can just be award-winning too!

Market Square Volkswagen in Uitenhage, since March 2015, adopted four homes at Oosterland Youth Centre. This centre in Despatch accommodates 120 children placed in its care by the Children’s Court.

The main target group is all children in need of care, including destitute, orphaned, abused, and neglected.

“Since Market Square adopted these homes, on a monthly basis they spoil resident children on their birthdays,” said Zulyka Scott, Oosterland Youth Centre: Fund-raiser.

Market Square’s involvement at the Centre was the initiative of its Dealer Principal, Tracy Weise.

“She wished to have Market Square’s personnel involved in a local sustainable project where their involvement makes a difference and contributes to building a brighter future. And it surely does.”

In an effort to support the Centre through raising of funds it was decided to host a Cocktail andamp; Canapé evening with well-known all-round entertainer Ian von Memerty as the special guest.

Weise together with colleague Natasha Schultz, Scott and various sponsors are driving this evening of socializing and entertainment.

Ian von Memerty has received 15 national theatre awards, and has been nominated a further 17 times.

He is best known as the presenter of the hit television series Strictly Come Dancing and the fantastic judge on SA’s Got Talent and for his piano show A Handful of Keys.

“The combination of Oosterland’s slogan ‘Building a Future Today’ combined with Market Square’s ‘Closer Than You Think’ is inspiring. We are proud to be associated with local business wishing to help in building our children’s future,” said Scott.

)The Cocktail and Canapé evening with Ian von Memerty will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 18:00 for 18:30. Tickets are R125 and available from Oosterland Youth Centre (041 933 1120) and Market Square Volkswagen in Uitenhage (041 992 4012)
