Gliding, skydiving, Beetle driving and extreme 4x4 action will have many a spectator in awe on Saturday during the first Extreme Fun andamp; Sports Day hosted at the Uitenhage Airfield.

The event is a run-up to next year’s Uitenhage Airshow.

“It is not possible at all to combine extreme or adventurous sports with an airshow. It is against regulations and a high risk of having aircraft and sport activities perceived as having a high level of inherent danger,” said Lourens Kruger, organiser of the Extreme Fun andamp; Sports Day as well as the popular Wings andamp; Wheels Festival andamp; Doug Davidson Memorial Airshow.

The public will have the opportunity to experience tandem skydiving, gliding and various other adrenaline pumping sports.

“We are excited about skydive experts EP Skydivers from Grahamstown, Joos Vos and James Williamson, who will join in the extreme fun by offering the public the opportunity to enjoy tandem skydiving.”

Karel Spangenberg from the EC 4x4 Challenge Club made sure the 4x4 track will indeed be an extreme experience. So, be aware this track with its 10 obstacles definitely is not suitable for the faint-hearted. The action starts at 09:00 and entries will be accepted on the morning of the event.

Extreme sports are activities which more than often involve high speed, height, a high level of physical exertion as well as specialized gear.

Spectators and participants can be assured that the aforementioned will all be present at the Uitenhage Airfield on October 3rd as from 08:00 when the gates open.

Both the airshow and this extreme sports day are organised with the aim to raise funds in developing and upgrading the local airfield.

The entrance fee to the Extreme Fun andamp; Sports Day is R30 and for R10 for primary school children. The day is organised by the Uitenhage Airfield Association which is kindly assisted by Algoa Steel, Klinicare Pharmacies, Stu Davison andamp; Sons and Rangers.
