A healthy home-cooked meal often makes a world of difference to a day. Especially when all you need to do is warm it up and enjoy the meal in the comfort of your own home. No dishes to wash and no kitchen to clean up.

Plaaskombuis is the idea of Yvonne Bezuidenhout and her brother Manie Sims, a qualified chef, who on a daily basis cook meals to order.

The concept is ideal for those who do not have the time to spend in front of a stove and also for pensioners preferring to enjoy a daily balanced meal.

“It is real Boerekos. We cook it like we know it is done in a farmhouse kitchen, with attention to healthy ingredients, a loving heart and generous portions,” said Yvonne.

Plaaskombuis started a year ago, with their first order being three meals a day. The business gradually expanded and the assistance of Gloria Claassen was soon needed with the average of 40 plates nowadays being served per day. The meals are ordered from a weekly menu which is altered from time to time.

Home-cooked meals, to name a few, include:

• Beef curry, steamed rice, green beans andamp; sweet carrots

• Fried chicken, rice andamp; gravy, peas, carrots

• Lasagne, carrots andamp; salad

• Lamb curry, rice, pumpkin andamp; beans

• Crumbed pork, baked potato, mixed veg andamp; tomato salad

How does it work?

Customers order the meal/s of their choice (before 11:00). They supply their own plates. Meals are prepared and fetched straight from the kitchen at 25 Frere Crescent, Van Riebeeckhoogte. Meals are served only during weekdays. Payment can be weekly or monthly.

Apart from home-cooked meals, Plaaskombuis also does platters and delicious eats and treats for special functions.
