The Uitenhage Community Policing Forum in conjunction with the local police intend to host an open day highlighting the different careers to choose from in the safety and security sectors.

According to Lilly de Jong from the Uitenhage CPF, they want to create the opportunity for interaction between learners or students and the men and women in uniform. The sectors present include the South African Police Service, Community Policing Forum, Fire Department, Air Force, National Defence Force, ambulance service, traffic department, K9 Dog Unit and the SAPS air wing.

“The young ones should understand what the jobs entail and what a privilege it could be to join the forces who put their lives on the line every day and night, so that we all can be assured that you and your loved ones are safe,” said Lilly de Jong.

Some of the activities planned for the career open day include: K9 police dog show, fire brigade engines, police helicopter, army drill for children, crime scene: spot the difference, get your fingerprints taken, police on horse back and find the “skollie” treasure hunt.

“With this open day we want to give the youth proper guidance, advice, information and exposure regarding the public service providers,” said De Jong.

)The career open day will be held at the Uitenhage Aerodrome on Saturday, June 13th from 09:00-15:00. For more information regarding the career open day contact Lilly on 076 345 9934
