Through the intervention of the Manhattan School of Music, six qualifying students over three years will receive a scholarship to attend one of the world’s most prestigious music conservatories.

It was at this institution where a young Hugh Masekela studied for four years. Throughout his life, Masekela was an exemplar of the principle that ‘the learning never ends’ – his curiosity, eagerness to learn and collaborate with others, was a hallmark of his appeal to audiences and fellow-creatives alike.

The Scholarship is aimed at young South African musical talent who face social, cultural and economic challenges, and nonetheless have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing their craft.

The Hugh Masekela Heritage Scholarship represents an opportunity for South Africa’s future musical legends to receive training at one of the world’s most renowned musical institutions, a school that prides itself on a vibrant student body who come from more than 45 countries around the world.
