A multi-dimensional short film course, aimed at building a solid foundation of practical filmmaking experience in the Eastern Cape, will be conducted in Uitenhage for the next five months.

According to Nceba Mqolomba, facilitator of the Xola Mali Film Training Programme, Mali was a pillar of the arts sector within Sarah Baartman District and the Eastern Cape at large. He supported the Sarah Baartman festival, EC film festival as well as the EC Film Forum.

“Twenty students will be selected from a pool of applicants. These students will be introduced to the technologies of film practice,” said Mqolomba, who also is the chairperson of the EC Film Forum.

During the five month course, the technical and theoretical principals of filmmaking, that investigate the film value chain, will be covered. The students will also be divided into production teams (director, producer, editor, cinematography and sound) to produce a short 5-8 minute film per team.

“The ultimate goal of the course is to develop both technical and conceptual skills through the use of film screenings, lectures, demonstrations, reading and other exercises in order to successfully put your thoughts and ideas into your own film,” said Mqolomba.

The teams’ respective final projects will be screened at the 5th Eastern Cape Film Fesitval.

Interested students have to submit their CVs, a motivation letter stating why you are the ideal candidate for this programme and a link to Showreel of past work (if available). This should be submitted in one PDF file to radioyabantu@gmail.com by no later than August 23rd. Successful candidates will be notified by August 30th.

The short film course will be held at Agape Coffee Shop in Caledon Street, Uitenhage and the duration will be from August to December 2019.
