City relay held from U’hage to PE

The 1 City Relay and 42.2 km marathon, jointly organised by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in partnership with Eastern Province Athletics and Athletics South Africa, will be held on Sunday.

The routes of the relay and marathon will start from Muir College, run through Despatch and finish at the Port Elizabeth City Hall. The marathon starts at 06:30 and the relay at 07:00.

Prize money for both men and women athletes winning are R10 000, with R6 000 to the runners-up, R4 000 for third positions, R3 000 for those ending fourth and R1 500 to the fifth athletes crossing the finishing line.

Prizes for club relay teams is a whopping R20 000 for male and female teams consisting of 4 members, and R6 000 for mixed teams also consisting of 4 members per team. Social and corporate teams have 8 members per team, with first prize set at R4 000.

Relay legs are divided into a 10km, 11.1 km, with social and corporates categories divided into 8 legs.

Schools, both primary and high, have prize tags of R4 000 each for first place, R1 600 for second and R1 200 for third. Note must be made of the bonus on offer of R10 000 to the winning primary and high schools.
