The first cricket team of Daniel Pienaar THS was crowned Despatch T20 champions after beating Despatch by 35 runs in an entertaining final played at the Despatch Cricket Club field.

After having their first two matches rained out, DP had to win all four of their remaining matches.

DP beat Lillyfontein by 41 runs with Ryan Oliphant top scoring with 62 and Sonwabile Tshona contributing a well-played 44 runs. Liyema Gaba bowled 3 overs and took 1 wicket for 8 runs.

In the second match DP scored 189/4 against Otto du Plessis with Heinrich Leibbrandt scoring 51 and Kenan Smith 40. Otto du Plessis could manage only 53 all out. Daniel Pienaar’s top scorers were Kenan Smith (bowling 4 overs 2 wickets 9 runs) and Heinrich Leibbrandt (2 overs 3 wickets 5 runs including a hattrick). DP won by 136 runs and secured a place in the semi-final.

In the semi final DP restricted Grens High School to 66/9 in their 20 overs. Sonwabile Tshona (4 overs 3 wickets 9 runs) and Kenan Smith (4 overs 2 wickets 19 runs) were DP’s best bowlers. DP won by 9 wickets. Kenan Smith scored 26 not out and Ryan Oliphant 21 not out and performed well with the bat.

In the final against Despatch, DP scored 114/9 20 overs with Morné Labuschagne top score of 28 and Ryan Oliphant’s score of 23. Despatch replied with 79/9 20 overs. DP’s best bowlers were Kenan Smith (4 overs 3 wickets 9) runs and Sonwabile Tshona (4 overs 2 wickets 11 runs).

DP won the final by 35 runs. The first team also completed a successful tour to Mossel Bay where they competed in the Punt High School Cricket Festival, winning all their matches.

DP’s under 15 team is playing excellent cricket as well.

After winning the Marlow six-a-side Tournament, DP U15 team played at the Kwagga Week in George, winning 5 out of 6 matches, losing narrowly in the final by 2 runs.
