IN the annual Cricket South Africa National T20 competition for schools Daniel Pienaar THS came to the wicket in a major way.The Tigers (under the expert coaching of Zarier Sirkhotte) had to face cricketing giants, Muir College, in the quarter finals at the end of January. Daniel Pienaar set a target of 195/1 in the allotted 20 overs. Muir was dismissed for 132 which saw Daniel Pienaar reaching a 63 run win.The next hurdle was Woodridge College known for their proud cricketing tradition. This semi-final saw the Tigers soaring to a 55 run win after setting a target of 160/5 and dismissing Woodridge for 105/9.On Thursday it was time to prove their mettle in the regional finals and to top it all, this match saw them facing arch-rivals Brandwag. Brandwag batted first and was dismissed in the 13th over for 71 runs. As usual Hanif Mohamed made the ball and wicket work for the team with the following figures: 3 overs, 3 wickets for 10 runs. Dante Darries brought his special skills to the team when he took 2 wickets for 4 runs in 2 overs.Cameron Williams scored 54 not out and Daniel Pienaar reached their target for the loss of no wicket. The lads only needed 7 overs to achieve a 10 wicket win and are now proud regional champions.
