DP - oudste tegniese skool in land vier 121ste jaar

HTS Daniel Pienaar is die oudste en ook een van die bekendste tegniese skole in die onderwyslandskap in die Republiek van Suid-Afrika.

Die skool is in 1895 gestig deur ds. Daniel Pienaar, destyds die predikant by die NG Kerk Uitenhage Moeder-gemeente.

Huidige skoolhoof, Nico Claassen, sê “die doel van die skool was om vir jong seuns teg-niese vaardighede aan te leer sodat hulle selfonderhoudend kon wees en ‘n produktiewe bydrae tot die samelewing kon maak.”

Die skool het aanvanklik met 30 seuns begin en getalle is die afgelope aantal jare konstant meer as 800.

“Die skool is baie trots op die groot getal oudskoliere wat groot hoogtes bereik het op akademiese gebied aan universiteite regoor die land, in die ingenieurs-, konstruksie- en landboubedrywe, asook talle suksesvolle sakeleiers, entrepreneurs en tegnici in enige moontlike rigting in die ekonomie van ons land.”

Die huidige personeel, leerders, talle trotse oudskoliere en ondersteuners herdenk en vier derhalwe met groot opwinding, trots en dankbaarheid elke jaar die stigting van die skool.

‘n Huldigingsbyeenkoms ter ere van die stigters en stigting van die skool word op 22 Mei gehou. Oudhoofseun van 1988, Jacques Whittle, die besturende direkteur van die Corporate Renaissance Group, is die gasspreker.

Reünie-naweekprogram:

Vrydagaand, 6 Mei

Oudskoliere Kuieraand, 18:30, skoolsaal. Alle oudleerders, ouers en ondersteuners en hulle gades of metgeselle welkom. Kaartjies is R200 per persoon en sluit ‘n spitbraai in.

Saterdag, 7 Mei

HTS Daniel Pienaar vs Brandwag Hoërskool (rugby- & netbalwedstryde). Rugby (o.14 tot o.19) begin 08:00. Die opwindende jaarlikse FNB Classic Clash Rugbywedstryd tussen die 1ste spanne skop om 12:30 af.

Die netbalwedstryde begin 09:00.

Die jaarlikse kermis word die oggend op die A-rugbyveld gehou. Die middag na die hoofwedstryd sal die klubhuis oop wees.

Superrugby-wedstryde kan daar op die grootskerm-televisie gekyk word. Vure sal aangesteek word en braaipakke sal te koop wees.
