MELIKHAYA Frans won the 2018 Colchester Development 10km Run in 29.38, but his form is so strong at the moment we will have to hold our breath for his finish at month end at the Colchester Development Run, on Saturday, 30 November.

Top local runner, Melikhaya Frans, finished the Vukani 15km run recently in an outstanding time of 45.15, setting a new course record as he planned to. His team mate from Ikhamva Athletics Club, Luyanda Tshangana, finished 2nd in a time of 47.06.

Frans is in excellent shape for the Colchester Development 10km run which might be his last competitive race of 2019.

“I want to break the course record and I am confident that I will be able to run my personal best.

“The course is nice and flat with no hills,” said Frans.

Families are invited to join either the 5km or 10km distance and enjoy all that Colchester, with its stunning Sundays River, has to offer.

Both races start and finish at Mackay Bridge Angling Club in Colchester.

The Colchester Run will be a great opportunity for club runners to gain points in this EPA participation league event.

The event will include a 10km starting at 07:00 and a 5km starting at 07:30, with the prize-giving and generous lucky draw prizes taking place at 09:00.

The 10km winner will take home R2 000, the second position R1 500, and third finisher, R1 000.

The Colchester Development run is proudly presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and their Legacy Project.

Race organiser, Michael Mbambani, confirmed that all 5km finishers will receive a medal. Gold medals will be awarded to the first five men and women as well as the category winners. Silver medals will be awarded to the next 150 athletes, while bronze medals will be given out to all finishers within the cut-off time for the 10km race.

Participants are encouraged to drive towards Colchester, cross the bridge at Sundays River, then turn right. Turn right again and follow directions to the Mackay Bridge Angling Club.
