THE Uitenhage Methodist Church will on Saturday, 6 July host its Winter Market which is a family-oriented event with gift-shopping, delicious foods and entertainment of all kinds for all ages.

An important additional activity of the day will be the free eye screening, manned by Retina South Africa staff.

This is to determine whether a person needs spectacles and to discuss eye related issues, to help change the future for individuals and families living with vision loss.

According to Gail Cillie, chairperson of the Eastern Cape branch of Retina South Africa, “80% of our awareness and perception comes through our eyes, which is the driving force of life.”

Food & crafts

There will be various food trucks, food stalls as well as craft stalls selling from genuine leather products to clothing, plants, jewellery, homemade preserves, crafted woodwork and toys.

There will be a talk on bonsai plants.

There will be music and entertainment for the whole family with local performers Ru-Anè Wentzel, Marelize Els, Hazel Swanepoel, Karina Pattinson and The Silver Strings/Silwer Snare boere-orkes in attendance.

For the pet lovers High Noon Dog School will be showing off their tricks. So will Tina Hunt and her line dancers, who invite visitors to come and dance away their stress.

Baby as well as family photos will also be taken at the market.

A safe kiddie’s corner will keep young ones entertained while parents shop and browse the market.
