Games for intellectually impaired held in Metro

2016-03-03 06:00

The National SA Summer Age Group Games for intellectually impaired athletes will be hosted in Nelson Mandela Bay from 7 to 11 March.

Around 750 athletes with an intellectual impairment, from all 9 provinces will travel to the Bay. These athletes will compete in 6 sport codes namely swimming, cricket, hockey, table tennis, blackball pool and indoor rowing.

Some athletes with Down Syndrome will compete in the codes of swimming and table tennis in preparation for the upcoming Trisome World Championship.

Events will be hosted at various sports centres across the Metropole, unfortunately not in Uitenhage or Despatch.

A number of national teams will be announced during the Summer Games for international participation later this year.

The Metropole is known for its hospitality when it comes to hosting sporting or recreational events such as the recently hosted SANDF Career Expo and Armed Forces Day.

Therefore organisers are excited to see athletes compete in the Friendly City.
