ORANGE Justice is the name of the team of Grade 6 primary school learners at Hand-haaf Primary which is aiming to bring rightness in making fellow learners aware of plastic pollution and to take extra care of Mother Earth.

They have recently qualified for the final round of the Sasol Forever Resorts ENVIRO Quiz after scoring top marks for their project out of the 19 Eastern Cape schools participating in the tough semi-final.

Handhaaf scored 87 points, followed by Kabega Primary (86), Karel Theron Primary (79.5) and Lorraine Primary (79.5).

The final round of the competition will be held from October 26th to 28th at Gariep Dam. The theme for the final round is “Use more ... waste more”. The top schools from all the other provinces will compete.

Team Orange Justice will have to exhibit and present their project with special attention given on the poster to the making of the compost heap as well as the plastic classifications that were done by each team member.

An oral presentation of about 10 minutes must also be done to explain their project to the judges. Their voices will not be spared as they have to write an original environmental song, which they can sing to the tune of any existing song.

They further have to give feed-back as to suggestions implemented at school to improve the situation with regard to food and plastic waste. The assessment of the final round of the Sasol Forever Resorts Enviro Quiz competition will be done by six independent assessors who will mark the final quiz.

The prizes include cash prizes, book prizes, medals & certificates, teaching aids and a floating trophy for the winning team.
