Christmas is rapidly creeping up upon us and The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South is in full swing with its annual Tree of Joy.

“The aim is to have approximately 200 or more gifts for less fortunate children or old folks sponsored,” said Clive Hassell from the Rotary Club of Uitenhage South.

The huge Tree of Joy is at Levyvale Spar, where it will be until all the gifts are sponsored. The gifts will then be handed to the various charities for distribution to the already identified recipients.

“Gifts are R80 each and the Rotary Club is looking for the ‘Good Burghers’ of Uitenhage to sponsor them as generously as they have done in previous years,” said Hassel.

The Rotary members will be at Levyvale Superspar early evenings or at weekends to accept contributions. Donations of any value may also be handed at any time of the business day at Levyvale Superspar.

The charities which will receive gifts this year are:

  • Erica House Child and Youth Care; Unathi Crèche in KwaNobuhle; Veronica’s Care Centre (formerly known as Granny Slipper); Huis Minette home for mentally disadvantaged adults; Phaphamani Crisis Centre counselling centre in KwaNobuhle; Innes Street Home shelter for the very poor; S.H.A.R.E. Complex home for disadvantaged children in KwaNouhle; Huis Welverdiend old folks home.
