Increase in 10111 hoax calls

The police have noticed, with concern, an increase in abusive, hoax or prank calls made to the 10111 Centre in Uitenhage. These calls are made daily by children as well as adults.

“The South African Police Service condemn these abusive, hoax and prank calls as they may unintentionally contribute to the loss of innocent lives,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.

“If the emergency number is used responsibly, lives will be saved, more crimes will be prevented and more suspects will be arrested.”

The Uitenhage South African Police Service also want to remind the community not to phone the 10111 number from a cellphone, but rather from a landline. Also it is very important for a complainant to give exact details of the incident to the 10111 personnel so that they can despatch the correct police unit to deal with the situation.

The Uitenhage 10111 Centre can be reached on 041 996 3433/34/36 for any police emergency and 10111 from a landline.
