Nelson Mandela Bay is gearing up for a historic weekend of action ahead of the 13th edition of the annual Standard Bank IRONMAN® African Champion-ship taking place at Hobie Beach on Sunday 2 April 2017.

Festivities kick off on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 March with registration and the opening of the Health & Fitness Expo taking place at The Boardwalk. Saturday April 1 sees the return of the popular Corporate Triathlon Challenge powered by Algoa FM at 7:50am followed by the Spur IRONKIDS sponsored by Pritt at 12:30pm.

The main event, the Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship, is set to begin at 6:30am on the Sunday and will be broadcast live on DSTV’s dedicated SuperSport channel 199. This is the first time in the history of the event that all 17 hours of action will receive live television coverage.

Several other exciting new developments are guaranteed to ensure that this year’s event is a historic one for Nelson Mandela Bay. Not only does the race include the strongest professional field the race has ever seen, but the starting line-up also boasts the greatest number of international participants, more than 700 of the 2,000 athletes hailing from 66 countries.

They will race alongside the women’s World Champion, Asian-Pacific Cham-pion, North American Champion and previous three men’s Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship winners.
