THE Uitenhage Lions Club in association with their main sponsor, Market Square Volkswagen, will be hosting an outdoor cooking competition on September 24 at the Despatch Bowling Club. The aim of the event is to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Ward of the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital.The competition allows for outdoor cooking in any style, be it potjie or braai on wood fires or gas appliances.Apart from the R2 000 cash prize for the best dish, there are also discount vouchers to the value of R80 000 and a smash and grab car kit. Prizes will also be awarded for best stall, best spirit and for just getting into the vibe of Heritage Day. Chef Pierre Burman will be the Chief Judge for the day, and he will be supported by a panel of judges.Apart from the cooking there will also be entertainment for kids, a DJ and karaoke competition and delicious potjie for sale. A cash bar will also be available.The entry fee to participate is R350 per team consisting of four members.Entries will be capped at 30 stalls.
