Andile Motwana, from Tinarha Athletics Club, and Ntombesinthu Mfunzi, of Nedback Running Club, were the winners of the 10km Uitenhage Carnival Race held last Saturday.

The 5km and 10km races formed part of the 30th annual two-day Uitenhage Carnival which attracted more than 38 000 people last weekend.

The celebration took place in Caledon and Market Streets, which were closed to motorists.

Uitenhage Rotary Club member and Street Carnival organiser, Greg Adams, said one of the highlights was on Friday when Cape Town teenager, Paxton Fielies, the Idols SA 2017 winner, took to the stage.

“It was her first performance after being crowned Idols winner and she broke into tears when she was warmly welcomed by the crowds,” said Adams.

According to him, the carnival has opened up opportunities for local artists to showcase their talents.
