2016-04-28 06:00

A one-of-its-kind Marimba and Steel Pan Band Festival will be hosted by Strelitzia’s Mastrimba Band in Uitenhage.

The program will include a Round-Robbin “let’s get movin’” and a percussion session. For the bands able to stay later than 19:00 there will be a Jolly Jam & Joy session after supper.

The Band from AMI (African Music Instruments ) and Gareth Walwyn from Grahams-town, will facilitate said sessions and also be involved in teaching all the bands a Mass Band item. The Battle of the Primary School Bands and the Battle of the High School Bands will take place on Saturday, May 28th. After the performance of the Mass Band Item, the play offs for the Last Band Standing will commence.

  • The festival will be held at Strelitzia High School on 27 & 28 May. For more info contact Romey Aylward at raylward@strelitziahs.co.za or fax 086 524 5756.
