THE mixed choir of Marymount Roman Catholic Secondary School has been invited to participate in the Cantamus national schools choral festival and competition which will be held at George next week.

This is the fifth annual national choir festival and competition and participating choirs have the opportunity to meet choristers from all over South Africa and to attend workshops and visit some of the best tourist attractions that made the Garden Route a world-class destination.

The competition is open to all amateur choirs and the aim is to promote participation, gain competition experience and to receive upbuilding critique that empowers upcoming choirs to develop into proficient choral entities.

A total of 34 Marymount choir members will be accompanied by five teachers to the festival.

According to Rufus-Jayson Maclean from Marymount, “the children are from relatively poor backgrounds and we are hoping that the community could reach out and help by making donations towards the costs involved to participate in Cantamus.”

The choral festival will be held from 8 to 11 of August at the George Civic Centre.
