More than 162 arrested in U’hage Cluster

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster are resolute in the fight against crime and have arrested more than 162 suspects, through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart, a total of 44 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R22 000.

“The suspects were arrested on charges relating to reckless and negligent driving, robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and malicious damage to property.

“Four arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. Eighteen persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession. A total of 59 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes,” said Lt Swart.

  • The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
