AS the festive season approaches SPCA Uitenhage is ready to host a special Christmas Movie Night Under The Stars, screening the light comedy A Christmas Wedding Tail tomorrow evening at 19:30.

The movie is about two dogs who initiate an autumn romance between their owners, both of whom are widowed and have young children.

It tells the story of an unemployed widow named Susan, who is trying to make ends meet and take care of her three very shy sons and a lovable mutt named Rusty. Meanwhile, single dad Jake has his hands full with two tomboys and a fussy poodle named Cheri.

The two families don’t have too much in common - until their dogs fall in love, and need to get their owners to fall in love too, so they can be together.

The movie will be screened at the SPCA Uitenhage premises at 1 Schonland Street and gates open at 18:30. Tickets are sold at the gate (R30/adult and R20/pensioner whilst kids under the age of 3 years may enter free of charge). Movie-goers may bring along their own chairs, cushions and blankets. There will be food stalls selling snacks and drinks to raise funds for the association.

The movie night is a venture to raise much needed funds in preparation for the “silly season” during which the intake of stray and neglected animals and domestic pets dramatically increase at the SPCA. This is owing to uncaring owners who go on holiday, not worrying about the well-being of their animals and who simply leave them alone without food or water or in worst case scenarios even dump them.– HEILIE COMBRINCK
