Municipal strike: do not put out black bags

2018-06-21 06:01

OWING to the ongoing Nelson Mandela Bay municipal strike, residents from Uitenhage and Despatch are advised to steer clear off local municipal customer care centres and to refrain from placing their black bags on verges, but rather retain them within their premises until industrial action has stopped.

The customer care centres that are closed include: Mfanasekhaya Gqoboshe Customer Care Centre (former Eric Tindale Building), Uitenhage, Walmer, Despatch and Kwa- Nobuhle Customer Care Centre. Customer Care Centres currently operational are Korsten, Cleary Park, Kwamagxaki, Motherwell Thusong Centre and the New Brighton Customer Care Centre.

“Even though these centres are open, we caution residents to use their own discretion when approaching these centres as our Joint Operations Centre (JOC) received reports of intimidation at some of our municipal buildings,” said Kupido Baron, Media Management Officer at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Refuse removal

Residents are requested to refrain from placing their bags on verges and rather to retain the bags within their premises until further notice.

The Koedoeskloof and Arlington landfill sites are open and operational for disposal purposes.

Residents can also dispose of their domestic waste and garden refuse (no builders’ rubble) at drop-off centres between 07:00 and 17:00 every day.

“No residents will be turned away during this period,” said Baron.
