The Uitenhage Historical Museum is looking for people who can assist them with information regarding wars fought in the area, as well as interesting facts regarding the indigenous people of the area.“We intend to conduct on extensive research on these topics and afterwards host an exhibition. We therefore are looking for people who have such knowledge for our interviews,” said Balise Mvoko, Museum Manager: Uitenhage Historical Museum. Apart from gathering information from the community, the Museum also requires people to donate artefacts, old photographs and maps of the town, dating back to the 1800s.“We also invite people to become ‘Friends of the Museum’ and participate in activities hosted here. Activities will include historical research, maintenance of buildings and exhibitions, marketing the museum, and fund-raising,” said Mvoko. This is a voluntary service, which does not benefit from any payment or allowances. “The reward will be to be part of protecting and sharing the history of Uitenhage and its people and using the skills to enhance the appreciation and respect of our diverse cultures.“We have had the Uitenhage Lions taking interest in the heritage of Uitenhage, by seeking sponsorships for the museum, that is what the friends of the museum can also do,” said Mvoko.
