Gone are the days of scales only indicating your weight ... your health should weigh more and therefore it is all about body composition!

Losing weight is no triumph if you are shedding lean muscle and hanging on to fat. The Tanita body composition monitor is designed to provide accurate readings for healthier living.

This product provides a person with an insight into key health indicators that will enable you to monitor the impact on changes to your lifestyle. For instance it provides readings of your visceral fat, a key indicator of the risk of Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It can also fine-tune your fitness programme by monitoring progress of muscle mass.

The monitor will also show the impact of a change in diet on the body to make sure you are dieting the healthy way.

The readings are for informational purposes only. It is not intended to diagnose or treat any disease or abnormalities, but rather to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

How does it work?

The monitor calculates your body composition using bio-electrical impedance analysis. Safe, low-leveled electrical signals are passed through the body via the Tanita footpads on the monitor platform.

It is easy for the signal to flow through fluids in the muscle, but meets resistance as it passes through body fat, as it contains little fluid. This resistance is called impedance. The impedance readings are entered into medically researched mathematical formulas to calculate body composition.

This includes aspects like body fat, visceral fat rating, body water percentage, daily calorie intake, muscle mass and bone mass.

What is body fat?

Body fat percentage is the amount of body fat as a proportion of your body weight. Reducing body fat reduces the risk of certain conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Body water percentage

This is the total amount of fluid in a person’s body expressed as a percentage of your total weight. Body water levels fluctuate continuously therefore the reading should act as a guide. The average total body water percentage for a healthy adult should be 45-60% for females and 50-65% for males.

Visceral fat rating

Visceral fat is the fat surrounding the vital organs in the abdominal area. Research shows that even if your weight and body fat remain constant, as you get older the distribution of fat changes and is more likely to shift to the abdominal area. The Tanita body composition monitor will provide you with your visceral fat rating.

Daily calorie intake

Tanita has conducted in-depth research into measuring DCI and give a much more accurate and personalized reading for the user based on the impedance measurement.

Metabolic age

This feature calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and indicates the average age associated with that type of metabolism. If your BMR age is higher than your actual age, it is an indication that you need to improve your metabolic rate. Increased exercise will improve your metabolic age.

Muscle mass

Muscles play an important role as they act as an engine in consuming energy. As muscle mass increases, energy consumption increases, helping you to reduce excess body fat and lose weight in a healthy way.

Bone mass

It is important to develop and maintain healthy bones by having a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.
