The monitor calculates your body composition using bio-electrical impedance analysis. Safe, low-leveled electrical signals are passed through the body via the Tanita footpads on the monitor platform. It is easy for the signal to flow through fluids in the muscle, but meets resistance as it passes through body fat, as it contains little fluid. This resistance is called impedance. The impedance readings are entered into medically researched mathematical formulas to calculate body composition.This includes aspects like body fat, visceral fat rating, body water percentage, daily calorie intake, muscle mass and bone mass. What is body fat? Body fat percentage is the amount of body fat as a proportion of your body weight. Body water percentage This is the total amount of fluid in a person’s body expressed as a percentage of your total weight.
