No mercy for law offenders

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested a total of 171 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Gerda Swart, a total of 42 traffic fines (valued at R21 000) were issued and arrests made varied from housebreaking and theft, and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Four arrests were made of persons driving under the influence of liquor. A total of 72 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. 31 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession.

Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue with their actions to combat crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property
