Last Saturday morning more than 950 excited running enthusiasts gathered at the Volkswagen PeoplePavilion for the annual 5km Fun Run and 10km Run.

“Well done to the VW Athletics Club for a well organised event. My wife and I enjoyed the 10km race and the support and atmosphere was inspiring! It is this same support that allowed VWSA to be the number 1 plant in the Volkswagen Group,” said Thomas Schaefer, Volkswagen Group South Africa Chairman and Managing Director.

“A healthy and fit lifestyle is very important to me and it is just as important for the rest of our VW Family. That is why I am so proud to have seen so many employees and their loved ones taking part.

“Our PeoplePavilion is the perfect start and finish for this race and it ensures that VWSA’s investment of R30 million into this facility continues to pay off.” concluded Schaefer.

Record number visits market day

The race was combined with the popular VW Market Day which provided fun and entertainment for the whole family, setting a record for visitors, a total of 3 054 were at the Market Day.

  • The VW 10km race is endorsed by EP Athletics and was successfully hosted and organised by the VW Athletics Club.
