Philharmonic orchestra concerts in the park

2017-02-16 06:01

The Eastern Cape Philharmonic Orchestra’s Concerts in Victoria Park are back in their popular February time slot this year.

The Sundowner concert will take place this Saturday at 17:00 and the Brunch concert on Sunday at 10:00. As always, the concerts promise wonderful soloists, Richard Cock at the helm, the full Philharmonic Orchestra to entertain the crowds; and a beautiful Park in which to relax, spread out the picnic blanket and enjoy some fabulous music and good food.

The exceptional soloists come directly from a sold out performance at the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in December.

The always poplar Tim Moloi will be joined by stunning Lauren Dasappa, and together they will bring all the Big Band swing numbers to life – Fly me to the Moon, I’ve got you under my skin, Summertime, Mac the Knife and many, many more.

Tim is no stranger to the ECPO, having performed at the 2011 Park concerts, and at the memorable Igazi Foundation Red Balls. He is the consummate professional; having appeared in 2016 alone in Classics is Groot, Hartklop, A Night with the Stars and the superb Luther Vandross Tribute, among many other performances.

Lauren Dasappa lectures classical voice at Stellenbosch University, but her personal repertoire ranges from opera to light and popular music – including an award for her performance Cinderella!

  • Tickets are available at the Victoria Park gates on the day from 2 hours before each performance, at R120 for adults; R70 for pensioners; R50 for scholars; and free for pre-schoolers.
