Police arrest 157 suspects

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested more than 157 suspects, through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend until Tuesday morning.

According to police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, a total of 54 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R27 000.

The suspects were arrested on charges relating to housebreaking and theft, attempted murder, robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and possession of suspected stolen goods.

“Five (5) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. 43 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession. A total of 33 fines were issued for other liquor-related crimes,” said Captain Swart.

“The police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively.”
