Police officials arrest 142 suspects over weekend

Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested more than 142 suspects, through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, a total of 41 traffic fines were issued, valued at more than R20 500.

“Two suspects (male and female, both in their forties) were arrested in Baleka Crescent, KwaNobuhle after information was received and members confiscated bags containing 250kg dagga with a street value of more than R500 000,” said Captain Swart.

“The other suspects were arrested in charges relating to robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, possession of suspected stolen goods. Ten (10) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor and 21 persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession. A total of 37 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes.”

The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects.
