CELEBRATE Women’s Day on Friday, August 9, by joining the popular Diva Run, which caters for all women, from serious athletes and fun runners to moms and their daughters..

Popular local top runner and role model, Ntombesintu Mfunzi, will be defending her title. Last year she won the 10km in a time of 36.27.

The Pearson Institute of Higher Education will be sponsoring a full three-year bursary valid at any one of their twelve campuses in South Africa, as a lucky draw incentive open to all parti-cipants in both the 10km and 5km runs, valued at R150 000.

“The bursary is the highlight of our lucky draw competition, which means you don’t have to win one of the races to win it,” said Elizna Theron, Campus Principal of Pearson Institute, Port Elizabeth.

“Anyone who enters the 10km race or 5km fun run will be eligible for the bursary prize – but you must be there to claim it.”

She said the bursary draw would bring the prize-giving to an exciting conclusion after the 10km cut off at 08:40. The official prize-giving ceremony will take place at Kings Beach, Humewood. The popular Diva Run, presented by Eastern Province Athletics in partnership with Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, will start and finish at Kings Beach, Port Elizabeth.

The Diva Run, organized exclusively for women, includes three distances: the 10km which starts at 07:00; the 5km which starts at 07:15 and the 1.5km Kiddies Dash which starts at 08:15.

Moms are encouraged to walk with their children for the Kiddies Dash. Both boys and girls are welcome to participate.

The cost for 10km run is R60. Runners runners aged 65 years and over, will pay only 50% of race fee, which is R30. The temporary licence, required for the 10km only, is R40.

The cost for the 5km walk/run is R30 and R20 for the 1.5km Kiddies Dash.
