For the first time the Addo Elephant National Park is offering prime eland and kudu in addition to Cape buffalo at the annual game auction tomorrow, which forms one of the centrepieces of the SPAR Kirkwood Wildsfees.

“This year we will be offering about 40 disease-free buffalo as well as prime eland and kudu at the auction”, says Park Manager, Mzwandile Mjadu.

“All funds raised through the sale of the animals will go towards park development and conservation-related expenses,” he says.

Addo’s eland and kudu are among the largest in the Eastern Cape following years of careful management by the South African National Parks team, according to auction organiser Johan Swart.

Much of the Addo Elephant National Park is situated in the Sundays River Valley, and the park is a major contributor to the local economy as it attracts thousands of local and international visitors a year to the area.

“Now breeders will be able to tap into the Addo Elephant National Park gene pool by adding these prize animals to their herds,” says Swart.

This year’s auction, which is being hosted in partnership with the Eastern Cape Game Management Association (ECGMA), will have only select game for sale.

“We are positioned as the premier game auction in the Eastern Cape – with our animals recognised as being among the best in the country,” he says.

The auction is tomorrow from 12:00-15:00.

There will be more than 350 specialist stalls, wild and wonderful experiences for the whole family, top artists performing, expos, Skaapkop Langtafel and many more exciting activities.
