BY all accounts, and according to those present, it was a spectacle and one for the archives.

This is how the rugby match between Progress RC and arch-rivals Gardens, which was played this past Saturday at the Derrick Ferreira Stadium (commonly called “Die Hok”), is referred to.

In this Twizza Super League fixture of EP Rugby Union, the first half and the first portion of the second half was dominated by the home team, Gardens, to the extent that they built a commanding 27 – 3 lead, thereby also having secured a bonus point by having scored four tries.

After Progress made some vital changes, the game turned around completely with the visitors dominating the game in totality. In the end, Progress walked away with a very good and credible draw, thereby retaining their status as the only unbeaten team in the entire 2019 EP Twizza Super League.

Furthermore, Progress’ second and first reserves beat Gardens 18 – 3 and 32 – 25 respectively.

For this year, Progress is embarking on a recruitment drive. Any player, administrator, coaches and supporters are welcome to join.

What the club is especially proud of, is the fact that it has gained the services of all communities. Coloureds, white and Africans – thereby achieving it’s non-racial goal as enshrined in the club’s constitution.

  • Progress thanks all its role-players who made Saturday an event to remember. This Saturday, Progress will play against United Barbarians from Patensie, at the Uitenhage Central Fields. Kick-off 13:00.
