During July this year, a group of Dale Street Congregational church members decided that they want to spend their “67 minutes” on their church. They took on the task of raising funds to overhaul their church bathrooms.

“The goal is to have the ablution facilities revamped by Christmas day,” said Ghauderen Coetzee-de Vos.

Last Saturday night saw the culmination of their planning. A fundraising evening was held where everything was sponsored, from the draping of the hall to the food and drinks.

Guest speaker Randall Carolissen and his wife, Nadia (néé Bosman) flew all the way from Gauteng to Port Elizabeth, at their own expenses, and he spoke about “self-worth and the role that it plays in addressing the ills of our societies”.

“On the evening an amount of R20 000 was pledged towards the ablution project and that excludes funds raised through ticket sales.

Also, a 32’’ flat screen television was sponsored by a family in the church and was put up as a raffle to increase funds,” said Coetzee-de Vos.

Reverend Navan Adonis is retiring at the end of 2018 and indeed he seemed warmed by and proud of the efforts made by his congregants to maintain and upgrade the facilities of the Dale Street Congregational Church.
