2019-02-14 06:00

DILIGENT police officers from police in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested Desiree Reiners (47), who has defrauded 10 females in Kamesh.

According to police information 3 complainants have respectively opened a case of theft under false pretences, after the Reiners collected R170 monthly from 10 females.

“Payments were instituted in January 2018 and the last payment was done in November 2018. The suspect promised to purchase a sheep for each client that would be delivered in December 2018, after she collected the total amount of R17 000 at the end of November 2018,” said police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart.

The clients never received their promised meat and there was also no sign of them being reimbursed.

“A case was registered last Friday, 8 February and the suspect was arrested the same day.

“The suspect (Desiree Reiners) appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 February 2019 and the case was remanded for further investigation until Wednesday, 6 March 2019,” said Captain Swart.

Reiners was released on a warning.

The South African Police Service wishes to warn the community to be cautions of transactions of this nature and rather purchase livestock from a registered dealer.

The SAPS also request other victims who were also defrauded to come forward and report a case to their nearest police station.
