Riebeek class of 2019 ‘believe in tomorrow’

2019-04-11 06:00

“A night of a thousand lights” was the theme of Riebeek College Girls’ High School’s class of 2019 matric farewell, which was hosted at Arabest.

Riebeek principal, Kieran Stear, welcomed the guests and proposed a toast to the young ladies of Riebeek, who celebrated this milestone in their high school career.

A silver bracelet was given to each of the 76 matrics as a gift, to remind them of this special event afore they enter adulthood and fill their positions in society.

Riebeek head girl, Zeenat Lukie, started her farewell speech with the words of Audrey Hepburn, “...To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”

She thanked Mrs Stear, all the Riebeek teachers as well as the girls’ parents for believing in the class of 2019’s “tomorrow”.

“We started our journey in the Riebeek garden as little Grade 4s, where our biggest problem was deciding whether to wear a Barbie or Bratz t-shirt for R2 civvies days,” said Lukie.

“Unsure of exactly what flowers we’d grow into. Sunny days helped us to grow, rains nourished our souls and some storms nearly ended us yet we’ve survived with the guidance of our amazing teachers and peers.

“Our roots have grown deeper as we’ve laughed, cried, and learnt so much together and tonight we finally get to blossom together!

“Remember the words of Miranda Kerr, ‘a rose can never be a sunflower and a sunflower can never be a rose’.

“All flowers are beautiful in their own way and that’s like women too”.

This embraced the Riebeek theme of encouraging diversity and standing together as women.
