IT is encouraging to see learners enthusiastically choosing books and eager to start reading them.

This was the sight at Vuba Primary School in KwaNobuhle, where a large donation of books was delivered at the school library.

This is an initiative of the Rotaract Club of Uitenhage which has decided on a project to supply a primary school in the area with books for a library. They have ardently been collecting books with the help of The Student Alumni Society of NMU, The Rotary Humanitarian Centre in Bedfordview and several organisations as well as the public.

The Rotaract Club amassed several hundred suitable books and identified Vuba Primary School as a worthy recipient.

Last Saturday the Rotaract Club took the books to the school, where staff and learners were assembled eagerly awaiting their arrival.

The principal, Mrs Sibozo, stressed the importance of learners to read properly and enjoying in doing so. She also said that the joy of reading would stand them in good stead for their future education, pointing out that to her knowledge even many matriculants didn’t have the skills of properly reading.

Pupils who started their education at Vuba Primary School had always had the opportunity and encouragement to read, and these books would go a long way towards furthering the aims of the school.
