THE Rotary Club of Uitenhage South recently officially donated the total refurbishment of two classrooms at Caritas Primary School, which along with the aid of the club’s Anns had been completed.

The rooms are used by the reception classes and previously were in a dreadful state.

“They were not only dilapidated, grubby and dowdy, but the ceiling of one had fallen down allowing fibreglass strands from the insulation above to fall on the young learners,” said Clive Hassell, media relations officer of the Rotary Club of Uitenhage South.

“It was a severe health hazard for the youngsters and altogether a desperate place for them to start their schooling career.”

Funds were raised by the Rotarians at their annual golf day which was held last year and contractors were employed to do the serious work of completely removing the ceiling, fixing the causes of the problem and replacing it with a totally new ceiling.

Lots of painting and happy murals, repairing walls, fixing floors and generally brightening the rooms were done by members of the Rotary Anns. A new set of “cubbyholes” for each learner and new furniture were installed to greet “The class of 2019” with an environment that is happy and safe for the start of the next phase of their young lives. -REPORTER
