Bookings have opened for the Sasol Addo Birding Weekend which will be held in Addo Elephant National Park from 21 – 23 October 2016.The weekend of birding will offer a wonderful opportunity to experience the diverse biomes of Addo Elephant National Park and the chance to spot over 200 bird species. Organised by the SANParks Honorary Rangers at Addo, participants will have a choice of taking part in different excursions. Birders will join groups birding in different areas of the ecologically diverse Addo Elephant National Park. Excursions include a trip through the Nyathi area of the Park, which is an exclusive concession area; float up the Sundays River on a ferry spotting different species of kingfishers and water fowl or take a ride through Addo game viewing area and see parts of Addo that are not open to the general public. Two additional excursions have been added, namely the pristine Kabouga section, which is situated close to the town of Kirkwood and the Narina area, which is situated in the Zuurberg Mountains. The weekend starts on Friday evening with a get-together and ends with a breakfast and prize giving on Sunday morning. A variety of accommodation has been pre-booked by the SANParks Honorary Rangers in Addo Elephant National Park and bookings should be done well in advance to avoid disappointment. All proceeds from this event will be used to funds SANParks Honorary Ranger projects identified by SANParks. Bookings for the birding weekend close on 19 August 2016.
