INSTEAD for waiting on the Department of Education, Uitenhage High’s school community has embarked on the ambitious project of building classrooms to ensure continued provision of quality education at this venerated institution.

According to Shaun Petrus from Uitenhage High School, a decision was made to build three additional classrooms in the first phase of this project.

“It will be in order to alleviate pressure on overloaded classrooms,” said Petrus.

“This phase is earmarked to be concluded during the upcoming June holidays and estimated to cost R500 000.

“The second phase will be completed during December 2019 and will be geared towards replacing the existing yet severely dilapidated and very dangerous prefabricated classrooms at a cost of approximately R1.2 million,” said Petrus.

At this stage, many former learners have contributed significantly towards this endeavour.

The school has begun fund-raising efforts and will ramp up its efforts with a raffle booklet with prizes to the value of R55 000, which coincides with the schools’ 55th anniversary being celebrated this year. The draw for the raffle will take place at the schools’ final assembly for the second term, 14 June 2019, where the winner of the raffle will walk away with R30 000 in prize money.

  • The school along with its stakeholders would like to encourage all those interested in participating in this endeavour to contact the school at 041 992 5020.
